Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Mechanical and Design Engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate brings several years of hands-on engineering experience, demonstrates strong technical judgment, and excels in leading complex projects from concept through completion. A Professional Engineer (PE) license is strongly preferred.

Position Summary:

Develop detailed design drawings and specifications necessary for Pacific Netting Products, Inc. to successfully price, bid, fabricate and install a wide variety of projects, work with the team to design, lay out, or detail components and production processes, and resolve design or other problems as needed.

Essential Duties:

  • Plan, conceptualize, and create mechanical designs for projects involving production, fabrication and/or installation
  • Perform engineering calculations to support design work
  • Create and review technical drawings, plans, and specifications using computer-assisted drafting equipment and software
  • Generate preliminary plans and drawings for bidding and pricing calculations
  • Collaborate with PNP management, production leads, sales team and administrative staff, vendors, customers and contractors to produce drawings and other information necessary to ensure project timeline is met and project stays within budget
  • Perform detailed documentation to track project development and design process from inception to completion
  • Post-project review and analysis
  • Actively participate in the company’s process of continuous improvement

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, mechanical engineering technology or related field
  • 2-5 years of experience working in engineering field
  • 2-5 years of experience designing structural systems and products
  • 2-5 years of experience using CAD software such as SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or similar
  • Proficient in SolidWorks
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel
  • Firm grasp of engineering concepts, especially in the areas of structural metals, metal fabrication, welding and fabrication drawing standards
  • Excellent math skills: ability to apply advanced mathematical principles and statistics to solve problems
  • Exceptional technical and problem-solving skills and reasoning ability
  • Ability to communicate effectively and clearly

Travel may be required on occasion for site analysis, consultation or post-project review.

Preferred Qualifications and Competencies:

  • Experience with Microsoft suite including Outlook and Word
  • Prior hands-on fabrication or shop floor experience
  • Marine industry background or experience a plus
  • Mechanically inclined creative thinker who is self-directed and team-oriented

Sedentary: This position involves occasionally exerting up to 10 pounds of force; and regularly exerting a negligible amount of force to move object, lifting or carrying articles like project files and small tools. Regularly required to sit and work with a computer for extended periods, occasionally required to stand or walk for brief periods. Regularly required to use hands to finger, handle or feel. Frequent talking, hearing, and seeing with close visual acuity are required.

The work environment is primarily an office setting with low noise levels, However, this position may occasionally require an individual to be exposed to moving mechanical parts and fumes/airborne particles, and infrequently exposed to outdoor weather conditions; extremes of cold/heat, humid conditions for brief periods if and when travelling or at a project site.
